Hey ladies, you know when you dream of your big day...the dream wedding- and you conjure up these beautiful bright images of people laughing and dancing in the sun, with children swinging on swings, a picturesque landscape! Romance and dancing....all that good stuff!? Well, Julia and Eric had all that and more at their wedding on August 1st. They couldn't have picked a more inspiring landscape: Brome Quebec, the family's farm for generations- a place where they all congregate as a family and have witnessed more than a few weddings on its very fields.
I only wish I could convey to you just how warm and wonderful the day went...It all started with the girls getting ready in the old farmhouse. As the aunts were in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on strawberry pies, the bridesmaids were applying their makeup to music as they sweat gloriously in their half-tops and shorts...It was so humid that it was reminiscent of the American South, (I swear all we were missing were a few mint juleps and a Southern twang). When it was time for the ceremony, the crowd gathered far into the fields and were waiting for the girls to emerge from the farmhouse...Well, emerge did they ever! In their "butterfly" bridesmaid dresses, the ladies sauntered effortlessly through the path to the ceremony site and well, everything else is history!

Wedding / Photographed by Chelsea Gray / Dorval Island, Qc. / Saturday, August, 8th 2009
So my friend Dan Haber gives me an emergency ring a few days before Ben and Nadia's wedding. Apparently their photographer couldn't make it and Dan was busy with his own brother's wedding, so naturally I stepped in to fill his crazy photographic shoes (I hope I succeeded!) The wedding took place at my new favourite Montreal destination: Dorval Island, where the wedding attire read: No ties please, and the only traffic on the island was foot traffic (and golf carts!). It all started with a 5 minute ferry ride:

Wedding / Photographed by Chelsea Gray / Cayo Guilllermo, Cuba / Monday, April 13 2009
When I was asked to shoot Erin and Jean-Simon's wedding in Cayo Guillermo, an extraordinary tourist destination in Cuba's Sabana Camagüey archipelago, there was no hesitation!
Prior to the wedding, I had done a little research about the area where we were staying and it mentioned that Cayo Coco was home to one of the most highly populated flamingo herds in the world (30,000+), so I asked around and managed to hire a private bird-watcher to take us on a tour the day of the wedding at 10am. All four of us (Jean-Simon,Erin, my boyfriend and myself) jumped into the car and headed out on our mission to capture the most original wedding photos ever! Our guide, Paulino, opened up the car doors and blasted flamingo calls so that they would approach us.... He also took us out to a completely desolate hut on a private, unspoiled beach, which turned into an impromptu musical jam with the two security guards! Jean-Simon grabbed the tamtams, one man brought out his guitar, Erin started dancing and when we told them it was their wedding day, they started playing the wedding song! I was so proud to watch Erin and JS dancing together to the Cuban up-tempo version of the "wedding song" in this little remote hut in the middle of nowhere... I can't express how unique that moment was, and it was just the beginning!
